Li was a promising young scholar at the ancient Library of Alexandria. Though
surrounded by countless scrolls containing the world’s knowledge, she struggled
to find signal in the noise. Endless texts blurred together, making it hard to pin-
point key insights. One day, the great Archimedes visited the library. Li com-
plained, “With so much to read, how do I distinguish what matters most?” Archi-
medes said, “My dear, you must speak with the scrolls! Annotate, underline and
take notes on the words and ideas that inspire you.” Li was puzzled, but Archi-
medes had proven wise before. She began annotating scrolls, find new meaning
in volumes she’d previously abandoned. Her notes galvanized insights, questions,
and connections between texts. Li’s mind danced with Archimedes’ across ideas.
Years later, a renowned scholar named Ptolemy visited. Li showed him her vast
library of annotated scrolls. Ptolemy was amazed, “You have extracted a lifetime
of wisdom on these pages! Your annotations are a gift to those seeking knowledge
in this text.” Li smiled proudly, realizing Archimedes had unlocked the secret of
how great minds read, write and think. She had found her way simply by annotat-
ing. Centuries later, Li’s annotated scrolls became part of the Library of Alexan-

you read. It allows you to ask questions, note key ideas, and
